They don’t do this often but Kingfishers can hover like Hummingbirds. They seem to do it when they can’t get a good sight on a fish or they aren’t at the right height or in this case as they lose sight of the fish in a dive. I was very lucky that the autofocus mostly stayed on her - this is a very difficult thing to do and I’ve been trying to get this since I first saw it about 5 years ago. Thanks to our local Kingfisher for the display!
